  • New nursery building handed over to Kyle Primary School

A new nursery building at Kyle Primary School has been completed and handed over to the school and will be fully operational after the October holidays.

Building Briefs - October 7th

The project saw the replacement of a dilapidated modular unit with a new building (with a registered capacity of 20) that fully meets the requirements of the Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) expansion programme.

The former schoolhouse, which has been vacant for some time, was demolished as part of the project to allow the new building to be sited in a more suitable location.

The project was delivered by the Highland Council’s in-house Property teams with McGregor Construction (Highland) Construction Ltd. as the principal contractor.

A total of 82 construction projects have been taken forward to support the delivery of the ELC programme, many of which also included other essential improvements to school buildings. Although progress was disrupted due to the impact of the pandemic, 59 have now been completed with a further 15 due to be completed by the end of December.

Where necessary, contingency, or interim arrangements were put in place to ensure that all settings were capable of delivering 1140 hours of funded ELC provision from August 2021.

  • Assessments ongoing for Catter Burn Bridge repairs

Local access to Croftamie is still available from the A811 as assessment work on Stirling’s Catter Burn Bridge continues.

The A809 is closed from the junction of the B834 to the junction of the A811 as an essential safety measure to allow emergency repair work, following the collapse of a parapet wall on the bridge on September 30.

No through traffic of any sort will be permitted to cross the bridge for safety reasons and assessments are currently being undertaken to determine the full extent of the damage and ascertain what repairs are needed.

A diversion route is in place via the B834 and A81 to Ballat Crossroads, with high-sided vehicles diverted via the B834 and A875 through Killearn and Balfron.

Public transport, school transport, bin collections and winter maintenance gritting will continue on the affected routes.

  • Emergency road closure by Scottish Water in Hamilton starts next week

Emergency work to repair a collapsed sewer in Union Street, Hamilton, will get underway from October 11.

Union Street will be closed from its junction with Auchingramont Road up to its junction with Auchincampbell Road to allow these works to be carried out safely.

The extensive repairs will be carried out by Scottish Water’s contractors George Leslie. The work is expected to take around eight weeks to complete. The road will be re-opened as soon as the work has been completed.

  • B7081 expected to re-open this weekend

The B7081 road is expected to re-open this weekend once reinstatement works have taken place.

A section of the road has been temporarily closed following subsidence between Dreghorn and Springside.

Scottish Water, supported by North Ayrshire Council, carried out a Ground Penetrating Radar Survey (GPRS) followed by excavation work which was completed this week.

Scottish Water is satisfied that the subsidence was localised and that there is no risk to the high pressure main and is due to complete backfilling the excavation today. As a precautionary measure, it will install some reinforcement to strengthen the area.

Once complete, North Ayrshire Council will commence reinstatement of the road surface.

It is currently expected this work will be completed on Saturday with the road re-opening as soon as the work is finished.
