  • Highlands hotel opens its doors following significant investment

Following an extensive refurbishment programme a new country hotel in the Highlands, The Cluanie Inn, has opened its doors.

Part of the Black Sheep Hotel group, a collection of Highland country hotels, the opening of The Cluanie Inn at Glenmoriston follows the recent opening of Rokeby Manor formerly Craigard Guest House) at Invergarry and soon to be opened Whispering Pine Lodge (formerly Letterfinlay Lodge) at Spean Bridge.



Dating back to 1787, the Cluanie Inn is a well-established local landmark, located in Glen Shiel on the way to the Isle of Skye. It started as a staging post for cattle drovers and was earlier known as ‘Rhiabuie’.

The hotel, ideally located to explore the Highlands, has 18 en-suite bedrooms. These character-filled rooms boast wilderness views and are spacious and cosy Accompanied by modern amenities this allows guests to experience truly affordable luxury in the Highlands. 

 



  • Ground investigation work to start at Longman junction

Ground investigation works at the A9/A82 Longman junction improvement scheme are to begin on September 30.

The work is expected to last around nine weeks, the majority of which will take place off the line of the existing junction.

 



  • Dunvegan Castle & Gardens wins 2019 Historic Houses Restoration Award

The 2019 Historic Houses Restoration Award, sponsored by Sotheby’s, has been awarded to Dunvegan Castle & Gardens.

Winning this prestigious restoration award at Sotheby’s in London is further recognition that Dunvegan Castle & Gardens has cemented its place as a world-class heritage attraction on the Isle of Skye.



Annually the estate contributes an average of £900,000 through a combination of employment and purchase of local goods and services. Since 2008 alone, it has contributed £8.3m to the Skye economy and over £12m to the Scottish economy.

 

  • Works to Dingwall leisure pool extended

Dingwall Leisure Centre Swimming Pool has been closed until further notice due to extended works that were planned for the facility.



The Dingwall pool was closed in July to allow works to commence. The works involve the replacement of ventilation ducts beneath the swimming pool with additional concrete repairs being undertaken at the same time to enhance the swimming pool area for users.

The planned works programme was extended to allow the encapsulation/seal of adjacent asbestos to provide a safe environment for the contractors carrying out the planned works.

 

  • Road improvement investment in north east Fife

Fife Council has announced an investment of £440,000 in road improvement works in north east Fife.

The council said it will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing on the A915 between Wester Newburn and Main Street, Upper Largo from September 30 for up to six weeks.
