Cairn delivers energy efficiency boost for homes in Aviemore

Working alongside MP Group UK, Cairn has delivered a major retrofit project at the 30-home scheme, exchanging old heating systems with air source heat pumps while introducing other provisions designed to lower energy use.

The upgrade has been carried out in response to comments from tenants, who had said that the former heating systems were inefficient, expensive to operate and added to problems with mould, damp and condensation.

MP Group UK, working closely with Cairn, also secured ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation Phase 4) grant funding. The funding led to the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, battery storage systems and iBoost hot water diverters, which use surplus solar energy to heat water.

The upgrade has improved the average Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of the development from a D to an A.

Preliminary assessments suggest tenants will see a major drop in their energy costs. Average annual savings are estimated at over £750 per household.
