Cala Homes plans 57 new homes and 18 apartments in Erskine

Cala Homes has set out plans to build 57 new private homes on newly-acquired land in Erskine, along with 18 affordable apartments delivered in partnership with Bridgewater Housing Association.
The Blyth Gardens site, situated off Florish Road, is already allocated for housing and benefits from a minded to grant approval from Renfrewshire Council, secured by Stewart Milne Homes in 2022, subject to conditions and successful conclusion of a legal agreement.
The land was acquired by Cala Homes (West) in July this year after Stewart Milne Homes went into administration in January 2024.
It is situated adjacent to the soon-to-finish Gilchrist Gardens development in Erskine, where Cala has been actively delivering around 40 new homes per year for the last five years.
Cala Management Limited has now submitted updated technical documents to Renfrewshire Council to further progress planning matters for the site.
The proposed new development will offer an attractive mix of high-quality, energy-efficient homes, including three-bedroom terraced houses, three- and four-bedroom townhouses, and four- and five-bedroom detached homes, together with eighteen purpose-built one and two bed apartments.
The proposed apartments will be built by Cala in partnership with Bridgewater Housing Association to provide suitable and affordable elderly amenity housing, which will allow older tenants to reside independently with an element of support.
The Cala-Bridgewater collaboration comes at a time when more than 20% of Scotland’s population is now over the age of 65, creating increased demand for suitable social housing that is energy efficient, of high-quality, safe, secure, and in this case, specifically designed to meet the needs of older tenants.
Located just off the Florish Road roundabout on the eastern edge of the town, Blyth Gardens will be ideally situated for easy access north via the Erskine Bridge, west to Paisley and Glasgow via the M8, and south to Glasgow Airport which is just five miles away.
The development plans include generous green space including the scenic Sandieland Woodland to the south of the site, as well as a dedicated children’s play area.
In line with Cala’s Urban Wildlife Strategy, the development will also incorporate a range of features designed to enhance biodiversity and support local wildlife.
Guided by expert ecologists, the plans include bat roosting and bird nesting features, hedgehog-friendly fencing, and invertebrate bricks to support bees and other insects, helping to protect and encourage native species throughout the site.
