Highland construction company Capstone Construction has made a key senior appointment with the installation of Michael Cameron as operations director.
Coming as the company experiences a period of strong growth in both the residential and commercial sectors, Cameron will play a key role in supporting the business as it continues to expand its reach across Scotland.
Cameron will report to managing director, Rhona Donnelly, who commented: “We are delighted to appoint Michael to this newly created senior position of operations director. Michael has played a key role in the growth of the company in his six years with us - initially as an experienced estimating manager before going on to become a successful commercial director.
“His appointment as operations director widens his remit and in this role will, I’m sure, help see Capstone go from strength to strength as it continues to grow its presence in the residential, industrial and commercial construction sectors.”
Cameron added: “I’m delighted to take on this newly created role, which is not only the next step on my own professional development, but which will see me play a key role as Capstone continues to grow and deliver an increasing portfolio of key housing and commercial projects across the Highlands.
“Since I joined Capstone six years ago, the company has enjoyed a period of steady growth and I look forward to working with Rhona and my fellow directors as we continue to grow the company organically - to help meet the needs of the Highland market - and also through exploring the synergies existing with fellow Global group companies operating in the sector.”
As part of a strengthening of its leadership team, Capstone Construction has also appointed Mark Bramley, as commercial director.
Speaking about Bramley’s appointment, managing director Rhona Donnelly said: “Mark’s appointment will more than fill the considerable void left by Michael Cameron’s promotion. Mark brings extensive experience in commercial strategy and fostering long-standing client relationships, underpinned by deep local knowledge and trusted connections across the construction sector.
“His appointment further strengthens Capstone’s leadership team and supports our continued growth, as we deliver on our vision and expand our order book of major projects across the Highlands of Scotland.”
Since being acquired by Global in 2022, Capstone Construction has gone on to significantly enhance its reputation for delivering technically challenging construction projects across the residential, industrial and commercial sectors. The company is also a major partner in the provision of affordable housing in the Highlands.
Following the recent announcement that Global was to build a new multi-million-pound, 2,000 m² headquarters within HIE’s Inverness Campus Freeport zone, Capstone Construction was appointed as principal contractor for the building, with the design created by fellow Global group company Bracewell.
The state-of-the-art headquarters is scheduled for completion by autumn 2026.
Rhona Donnelly added: “Capstone Construction is delighted to start works on what is the first project in the UHI Freeport area. Having agreed a fast track programme, we are currently completing the enabling works on site and looking forward to completing the key milestone with commencing the steel structure at the end of the year.
“As the leader in this Design & Build contract, we are closely working with the designers and key members of our local supply chain to deliver an outstanding building for the Global group of companies to enjoy for many years.”
This summer, Capstone Construction also handed over major projects in the Milton of Leys and Slackbuie areas of Inverness. In the former, the company delivered Pittyvaich, a new multi-million-pound care home for Parklands Care Homes, complete with café, salon, lounges, activity room, quiet spaces, and landscaped gardens. Located close to a school, nursery, and several churches, Pittyvaich is intended to become an integral part of the local community.
In Slackbuie, Capstone Construction also delivered the Slackbuie View residential development to Highland Housing Alliance (HHA). Building on a series of successful projects for HHA across the Highlands, Capstone led the construction of this diverse development, which comprises 18 two-bedroom cottage flats, four three-bedroom semi-detached homes, and two four-bedroom semi-detached houses.
This month, Capstone Construction officially handed over Phase 2 of the Castlepark development in Dingwall to Albyn Housing Association. The successful completion of the second phase of this residential development has delivered 27 new homes, ranging from four-bedroom villas and three-bedroom family houses to two-bedroom flats and one-bedroom bungalows. This milestone supports Dingwall’s continued growth, as the town’s population has risen at nearly five times the Highland average in recent years, and helps to meet the growing demand for affordable housing in the local area.
