Castle Building Services completes Passivhaus project for Paisley Grammar School

Castle Building Services has now completed the mechanical, electrical, public health and renewable services for the new Passivhaus-certified Paisley Grammar School located in Renfrewshire.

Appointed by Morrison Construction, this is one of several projects the two companies have collaborated on for a range of Scottish schools.

With a 300-seat theatre, Paisley Grammar School Community Campus has become the first Passivhaus school within the Renfrewshire Council local authority area.

The project is funded by Renfrewshire Council and Scottish Futures Trust. It is also supported by finance from the Scottish Government’s Learning Estate Improvement Programme.

The nature of the works for Castle Building Services included the design, supply, installation and commissioning of mechanical systems consisting of above-ground drainage, domestic services, low temperature hot water heating, underfloor heating, ventilation and air conditioning, incoming mains, thermal insulation, commissioning and building management systems to evaluate and control energy use as well as the installation of air source heat pumps.

Richard Farrel, divisional director, Castle Building Services, said: “It’s exciting to see this project come to a conclusion, ahead of its scheduled completion.

“The fact it is the first Passivhaus school in Renfrewshire is something we are very proud of and we are sure the campus will inspire staff and pupils to excel in all they do.”

David Ewing, Morrison Construction building central managing director, said: “The whole project team at Paisley Grammar School has achieved a fantastic result for staff and students and Castle has played its full part in that.

“We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Castle Building Services in the future and building on our track record of  high-quality educational facilities throughout the region.”
