The JR Group has begun construction on a sheltered housing complex on Bank Street in Alexandria, which will deliver 22 one-bedroom flats on behalf of West Dunbartonshire Council.

Representatives from The JR Group joined housing and communities convener Councillor Gurpreet Singh Johal and council officials to mark the start of construction.

The complex will be situated on brownfield land, which was previously the location of a medical centre which was subsequently demolished several years ago. Alongside the purpose-built apartments, there will be a dedicated common room for residents, as well as a staff facilities area.

Councillor Gurpreet Singh Johal, said: “This is an important development, taking account of the needs of our community and providing homes which are suitable for older people.

“I am delighted that this development has begun which will occupy this central Alexandria site.”

The project is expected to take around 60 weeks to complete and is the first The JR Group has undertaken on behalf of West Dunbartonshire Council.

The JR Group will draw on several of its in-house divisions to deliver the project, including Sprinkler Scotland and DC Timber - its own timber frame business.

Gary McGregor, managing director for The JR Group, said: “The development at Bank Street will deliver quality housing that offers the opportunity to live independently while benefiting from an on-site team and an area to socialise, helping West Dumbartonshire Council accommodate more people who require additional support.

“We are pleased to begin work to transform this derelict land into a modern sheltered housing complex that helps support residents in the community and look forward to its completion in 2027.

“While undertaking the project we’ll also be working closely with the council to support the community where we can though initiatives such as welcoming work experience placements and apprenticeships, giving the future and up-and-coming workforce in the area the opportunity to gain construction experience.”
