Local residents will get the chance to view exciting plans for new housing on two significant development projects planned for Irvine.

Plans are being published to transform the historic King’s Arms Hotel as well as proposals for almost 200 new homes at Montgomerie Park on the outskirts of the town.

The derelict King’s Arms is to be transformed into six new homes as part of North Ayrshire Council’s ambitious housing programme.

The Irvine town centre landmark will feature a mix of one and two-bedroom homes with redevelopment work currently scheduled to get underway in spring 2023.

The almost £2 million project will be supported by a Scottish Government grant.

North Ayrshire Council is holding a consultation event to allow local people and interested parties to view the final plans for the site. You can view the plans until Friday, 28 October, 2022 here.

In addition, draft plans for 189 new homes at Montgomerie Park, Irvine, are also now available to view and comment on.

This will be one of North Ayrshire’s largest council house developments in recent years and, once complete, will feature general needs homes, amenity bungalows and homes suitable for wheelchair users. The site will provide a mixture of two, three, four and five bedroom properties.

Construction work on the development, which is worth around £40million and will be supported by a Scottish Government grant, is expected to get under way during later in 2023.

Councillor Scott Davidson, cabinet member for Place at North Ayrshire Council, said: “We have committed to building 1,625 new homes across North Ayrshire by 2027.

“Many people who visited the King’s Arms over the years will hopefully be happy to see the building given a new lease of life, and the redevelopment will play a role in regenerating the town centre.

“The development at Montgomerie Park will see almost 200 modern, energy-efficient homes created, which will be one of the largest housing developments we have undertaken for many years.

“With new homes being developed in every part of North Ayrshire, we are delighted with the progress being made towards delivering one of the biggest and most ambitious house building programmes in the country.”
