Councillors unanimously approve 359-home new Stewarton community

Persimmon Homes West Scotland has welcomed the unanimous approval of its planning application for a major new residential development at Kilwinning Road, Stewarton, following a decision by East Ayrshire Council’s Planning Committee.

The approved development will deliver 359 energy-efficient new homes, including 87 affordable homes for local people, helping to address housing demand in East Ayrshire while supporting the delivery of high-quality, sustainable communities.

As part of the development, more than £3 million will be invested in local infrastructure and services, with contributions including more than £2.5m to support local schools, £300,000 towards local healthcare provision, and £70,000 for improvements to traffic management at Stewarton Cross.

The development will also provide new play areas, extensive public open space, improved walking connections, biodiversity enhancements, and measures designed to support active travel and sustainable living. New homes will feature modern energy-efficient technologies including air source heat pumps, solar panels and electric vehicle charging points.

The project is expected to support up to 168 construction jobs, as well as a further 127 jobs through the local supply chain, creating significant economic benefits for the wider area.

Chris Logan, Persimmon Homes West Scotland managing director, said: “We are delighted that members of East Ayrshire Council’s Planning Committee have unanimously approved our plans for this new community in Stewarton.

“The development will provide much-needed, high-quality homes for local families, including 87 affordable properties, while delivering significant investment into local schools, healthcare services and transport infrastructure.

“The approval represents an important milestone for Stewarton and we would like to thank everyone who engaged with us throughout the planning process. Feedback from the local community helped shape the final proposal and we now look forward to working closely with the Council and our partners as we bring these plans forward.”
