Crucible Developments plans Glasgow retail project
Vacant land at Darnley Mains on the southern outskirts of Glasgow has been earmarked for a new convenience store, takeaway and drive-thru coffee shop.
Ayr-based firm Crucible Developments has submitted an application to Glasgow city council which requests permission to create a “neighbourhood centre” on vacant land at Leggatston Road.
If approved, the project would include six commercial units across two buildings, with a mix of retail and food and drink uses. There would be 61 car parking spaces.
The plans, designed by 3DReid, stated: “The application seeks planning permission for the development of a modern neighbourhood centre to be provided in two buildings.
“The building that is proposed towards the southern side of the site will accommodate an anchor convenience food store and three smaller commercial units which will accommodate a mix of other uses, and the second building, to the northern side of the site, will accommodate a coffee shop incorporating a drive-thru element alongside one other commercial unit.”
It is hoped the development would serve the “established and emerging resident population within the surrounding area”, which the developer has said is within “easy walking or cycling distance of the proposed facility”.
Crucible Developments believes the delivery of the project would contribute to Glasgow City Council’s 20-minute neighbourhood aims, where all residents can meet their day-to-day needs within a 20-minute walk of their home.
“The main anchor convenience shop will be open seven days a week for the daily shopping needs of local residents,” the application added.
“On-site customer car parking will be provided, and the convenience store alone will support a number of new full and part time jobs. The development will activate an appropriate use on the site and make a positive contribution to the existing vibrancy, sustainability and diversity of this locale.”
