Dandara backs industry net zero push with carbon strategy pledge

Housebuilder Dandara has welcomed the launch of the New Homes Sector Net Zero Transition Plan, developed by the Future Homes Hub and the Carbon Trust, with the confirmation that it will publish its own Net Zero Carbon strategy in the next 12 months.

The Transition Plan, released this week, is the first coordinated roadmap to help UK homebuilders collectively decarbonise the delivery of new homes in line with national climate targets. Backed by over 40 companies across the sector, including Dandara, the plan outlines a long-term pathway to reduce emissions while maintaining housing delivery targets and improving home quality and performance.

Lesley Treacy, head of sustainability at Dandara, said: “This marks a turning point for our industry. For the first time, we have a shared framework that unites major players and SMEs in the sector behind a single goal – to decarbonise new homes. It’s a huge challenge, but collaboration is our strongest asset. At Dandara, we are fully committed to supporting the principles of the Transition Plan and will be publishing our own Net Zero Carbon strategy later this year.”

Developed through extensive consultation with the Carbon Trust, the Government’s Carbon Budget delivery plans and advice from the Climate Change Committee, the plan identifies nine key levers for decarbonisation and sets out a detailed emissions baseline for the sector. It also establishes a shared reporting framework, allowing progress to be measured and recalibrated as needed.

Dandara’s Net Zero Carbon strategy is expected to be rolled out, establishing a practical, company-specific roadmap in line with the sector-wide approach. The housebuilder has already begun engaging with its technical and procurement teams to assess impacts across its operations and supply chain.

“Our procurement team is already working with suppliers to understand the steps needed to reduce Scope 3 emissions,” added Lesley. “We’re also developing carbon literacy training to support our partners through the transition – because achieving net zero will require everyone to move forward together.”

Dandara is an active member of the Future Homes Hub, which brings together developers, suppliers and regulators to coordinate innovation and standard setting across the industry. The Hub will soon establish an Embodied Carbon Implementation Board and is working closely with the Government’s Net Zero Council to align efforts across sectors.

Lesley added: “This is a moment of shared responsibility. By working transparently and learning from one another, we can raise the bar for environmental performance while continuing to deliver the homes the UK needs.”
