The city council is working with engineering firm Jacobs on a series of concepts that are being designed to encourage sustainable transport.

Both Eden and Dundee City Council are looking to promote active travel as the main choice for people getting to the site, and car parking on-site will be limited to disabled bays.

Walking, wheeling or cycling will form a part of most people’s journeys, but connections for these are currently limited.

The aim is to provide routes that are safe, direct, comfortable and attractive for people to travel between the planned site and the main city gateway points and nearby residential areas.

These are:

• Between Dundee City Centre and Eden
• Between the proposed Arbroath Road Sustainable Transport Corridor and Eden
• Between Olympia Car Park and Eden

Jacobs has been commissioned by Dundee City Council to develop route options and prepare concept designs for the Eden Active Travel Connections project.

Meanwhile, drop-in sessions will be held at Olympia on Wednesday August 20 and Saturday August 23 for people to see the plan and give their views in person.

Engagement will also be carried out directly with local residents and businesses.

City council Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure convener, Cllr Steven Rome, said: “The concepts we are considering shows how seriously the council is taking its responsibilities as we plan ahead. Developing appealing active travel routes to and from the Eden site makes a strong statement about our support for the project’s vision.

“I hope as many people as possible engage with the consultation and help us shape the way forward.”

Other work being led by the council and the Eden Project is looking to improve other active travel routes to/from Eden Project, including improving the link between the site and the Waterfront using a proposed bridge which would span over the rail line and East Dock Street.

The consultation seeks feedback on the preferred route options and outline concept designs from stakeholders and local people.  

The next steps for the study are to update the route options and outline designs following the consultation feedback and provide a final report to Dundee City Council.
