A statement issued by the club yesterday said that “all necessary documentation” is now with Dundee City Council after almost two years of talks between the club’s project consultants, city planners and Transport Scotland.

The Dark Blues lodged its planning application in February 2024 for a 12,500-seat multi-purpose stadium and events campus. Eighteen months later, Nelms launched a stinging criticism of the council’s handling of the proposal, warning that “inexplicable procedural anomalies” were threatening to stall a project worth £150 million to the city’s economy.

The club wrote directly to First Minister John Swinney and several senior politicians amid mounting frustrations over delays - even enlisting Dundee-born actor and Succession star Brian Cox OBE to their campaign.

“After the initial submission for Planning Permission in Principle in February 2024, our consultants have worked through a significant engagement process with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the most robust submission,” a club statement said.

“We now believe we have taken every step required of us and look forward to our application being heard at the next available committee hearing date.

“We would like to thank our supporters for their patience during what has become a protracted planning application.

“We have never wavered from our belief that the Camperdown Stadium Project will transform Dundee FC’s future ambitions on and off the pitch, and that it will be a crown jewel of the city’s rejuvenation through its many social, leisure and economic benefits.”

John Nelms added: “Firstly, I would like to thank my project team for guiding us to this stage. As many fans will have detected, there have been many times during this process – which began in 2017 – when my frustrations have bubbled to the surface.

“While I would have preferred to have kept fans more up-to-date, we agreed to proceed at this critical phase privately with relevant stakeholders to focus on updating key elements of feedback.

“Having done everything asked of us and more, and having respected the planning process, we now place our faith and the project’s future in the hands of the city’s elected representatives. We look forward to sharing our vision with them as soon as possible.”
