Dundee’s latest public art installation is set to be officially unveiled at a community celebration event on Sunday 14 June, from 12pm to 2pm.
The family-friendly event will mark the completion of a new sculpture at Persimmon Homes’ Stewarts Loan development and will feature live music, circus skills, a creative activity and snacks for visitors of all ages.
The artwork has been created by Dundee-based artists Kate and Lainey of Infinite Sky, working in collaboration with sculptor and metalsmith Andy Macvicar of Loch Ness Forge.
Over the course of the project, the artists worked closely with a range of community groups across the city, helping to shape the design and meaning of the sculpture to reflect local identity and creativity. These include engagement with community organisations such as Art Angel, ScrapAntics and Finmills Community Centre, alongside residents involved in the wider Stewarts Loan development.
The sculpture forms part of Persimmon Homes’ wider regeneration of the former Stewart’s Cream of the Barley bottling plant site, which will deliver 71 new energy-efficient homes. The development includes a mix of three and four-bedroom properties designed to meet local housing demand.
James MacKay, Persimmon Homes regional managing director, said: “We’re delighted to see this project reach completion and to invite the community to come along and celebrate it. The engagement from local groups has been fantastic, and the sculpture is a fitting tribute to the history and creativity of this area.”
Kate and Lainey of Infinite Sky added: “Working with the community to help shape this sculpture has been a real joy. We believe public art is most meaningful when the people who live alongside it can see themselves reflected in it and feel part of its creation.”
The unveiling event on Sunday 14 June is free to attend, with all members of the community welcome to join the celebrations. You can find more details for the event here.
