A local East Renfrewshire charity has received its sixth bumper donation of £11,400 from Cala Homes (West) and Taylor Wimpey (West Scotland), thanks to its ongoing charity partnership with the consortium, Maidenhill.
Both homebuilders, whose homes make up the Maidenhill community in Newton Mearns, set up a partnership with East Renfrewshire Good Causes (ERGC) in 2019 when the community-focussed development was launched, where the local grassroots charity receives a ‘roof donation’ of £50 per each completed home.
The latest funding boost takes the total amount donated from the homebuilders at Maidenhill to a whopping £28,500, since its launch.
The charity, which was founded in 2007 by Russell Macmillan, a Newton Mearns native, has donated more than £2.4million to groups and individuals who need it most within the East Renfrewshire area.
Since the charity launched, Russell and the charity’s volunteers have been able to help 8,964 people within the local community including activities such as donating clothing and food supplies to young families and even providing furniture such as fridge freezers or blinds to families in need.
Russell Macmillan said: “We want to say a huge thank to the Maidenhill consortium for the continued funding boost.
“Through the roof donation initiative, we have been able to give vital support to individuals and groups who need it most. This is incredibly important as we are seeing an increase in those needing our help as a result of the cost-of-living crisis.
“The charity has now expanded and works across all areas of Scotland which means we can support more people. Partnerships like this are so important to help us continue to make an impact in people’s lives.”
Suzanne McElhiney, sales and marketing director at Cala Homes (West), added: “Russell and his team at East Renfrewshire Good Causes do such invaluable work within the community so we are delighted that we can support the charity with this sixth roof donation.
“We are very aware just how much the roof donation funding is helping those in the local area. East Renfrewshire Good Causes has been our selected charity since we first broke ground at Maidenhill, and it has been great to see the fantastic work Russell has managed to achieve with some of the money donated.”
Audrey Ross, sales & marketing director at Taylor Wimpey (West Scotland), added: “As Taylor Wimpey at Maidenhill continues to grow and we welcome more families, we are thrilled that we can continue to support ERGC which is such a worthy cause.
“Working closely with ERGC through the roof donation initiative means we know the funding goes directly to people within the community who need extra support. The charity supports people in a number of ways helping them with everyday needs to additional support for families, it’s a very important service.”
