Eversheds Sutherland continues to increase construction law expertise

Ben Peecock

Edinburgh-based law firm Eversheds Sutherland has appointed Ben Peecock as a partner in its construction team – marking its third lateral partner hire in less than two months.

The expansion includes Lauren Morrison, who has joined as legal director from Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer. Lauren will play a pivotal role in strengthening the firm’s UK-wide offering by deepening the firm’s presence in Scotland.

Joining from DLA Piper, Ben brings more than two decades of experience advising on major civil engineering and infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on green energy and nationally significant developments.

Ben’s practice spans a broad range of sectors, including energy (covering nuclear and renewables), transport, manufacturing, life sciences, real estate, and finance - acting for project sponsors, developers, contractors, end users, and funders. He is known for his expertise in NEC, FIDIC, IChemE, JCT, and bespoke EPC contracts, and for building and leading high-performing teams.

Ben also brings a strong international dimension, having delivered clean energy projects in the Nordics, Serbia, and Kenya, and developed a robust network across more than 30 jurisdictions. He has been recognised in Legal 500 2025 as a “Next Generation Partner” and is ranked in Chambers & Partners.

“I am excited to join Eversheds Sutherland at a time of such dynamic growth for the construction team,” Ben said. “The firm’s collaborative culture and international reach provide a fantastic platform to deliver innovative solutions for clients, particularly in the rapidly evolving green energy and infrastructure sectors.”

Ben’s arrival follows a series of recent strategic hires that have accelerated the growth of Eversheds Sutherland’s construction practice across the UK and internationally. In the past three months, the team has welcomed John Lurie and James Holden, who bring a notable presence across the UK, Middle East, and Africa.

Additionally, following the integration of Eversheds Sutherland’s practice in Ireland announced in early September, Kim O’Neill, Lisa Boyd as partners in Dublin and Belfast and Seán Scally and Chelsey O’Doherty as partners in the Energy & Infrastructure team.

Jonathan Douglas, head of construction and engineering, Eversheds Sutherland, said: “Ben’s appointment is a testament to our commitment to building a truly international construction practice. His experience in major projects and green energy, combined with our recent hires across the UK, positions us to support clients on their most complex and ambitious mandates both in the UK and in our global markets.”

Mark Davenport, global co-head of litigation and dispute management, Eversheds Sutherland, added: “Ben’s arrival, alongside our recent strategic hires, reflects our continued investment in top-tier talent and our ambition to deliver integrated, cross-border solutions for clients. We are delighted to welcome Ben to the team as we continue to expand our reach and capabilities.”
