Experts debate ventilation at SELECT Professionals’ Day 2025
SELECT MD Alan Wilson chaired the panel discussion
The fourth SELECT Professionals’ Day has been hailed a resounding success, with more than 50 senior industry decision-makers gathering at the V&A Dundee to discuss the latest developments in ventilation and indoor air quality.
Delegates from across Scotland’s construction sector enjoyed a lively morning of discussion, debate and networking, hosted by SELECT, the trade body of Scotland’s electro-technical industry.
Yvonne Wilson, skills & client relations manager at SELECT, said: “It was fitting that the weather for this year’s Professionals’ Day was a breezy affair, as our topic was air quality in Scottish buildings.
“Once again, SELECT was proud to bring together some of Scotland’s most senior professionals to share ideas, gain insights and explore the future of ventilation in construction.”
Mike Heffron, Gloria Lo, Bob Cairney and Darren Crockett
Representatives from housing associations, local authorities, higher education institutions and the private sector joined architects, surveyors, specifiers and project managers for the free half-day event recently.
Supported by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS), the event featured three expert-led presentations and an engaging panel discussion.
Key presentations included:
- Gregor Morrison, relationship manager at Aico, on mould and Awaab’s Law and its forthcoming implications for Scotland.
- Craig Cundey, UK ventilation lead at Ubbink, on practical ventilation solutions, which sparked lively questions and debate from the audience.
- Kelly Butler, director of external affairs at BEAMA, who shared insights into ventilation challenges and opportunities from a trade body perspective.
Discussions focused on the quality of ventilation in Scottish homes, the health implications of poor air quality, and the potential impact of new legislation such as Awaab’s Law.
Around 50 senior professionals and decision-makers attended the event in Dundee
SELECT’s MD, Alan Wilson, said: “With Awaab’s Law set to be introduced in England next month and similar legislation being considered in Scotland, ventilation has never been a more relevant or important topic.
“As Scotland’s largest construction trade association, SELECT was delighted to facilitate these conversations and provide a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the industry.”
Delegates also had the opportunity to meet and network with exhibitors, including SELECT associate members Aurora, Dimplex, Electrium, Flexel and National Ventilation, who showcased the latest technologies and innovations.
The morning concluded with an open panel Q&A featuring Bob Cairney, director of technical services at SELECT; Mike Heffron, CEO of Under One Roof; Kelly Butler; and Gloria Lo, chartered architect and University of Edinburgh lecturer.
Building on the success of previous years, Professionals’ Day 2025 once again proved to be a valuable opportunity for senior professionals to exchange ideas and strengthen connections across the sector - reinforcing SELECT’s commitment to collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement in Scotland’s built environment.
