Ferguson Planning Ltd is celebrating its 10th anniversary and continued growth as an independent planning and development consultancy.

As it enters its tenth year in business, the firm’s loyal client base and planning approvals on both large and small projects across Scotland and the UK have enabled continued growth with cautious optimism for the future.

The company was established by Tim and Toni-Jane Ferguson in 2012 from the family home in the Scottish Borders and has now grown to a team of seven with offices in Edinburgh, Galashiels and a satellite office in Northern Ireland.

In response to continued commissions in the Central Belt, Ferguson Planning established an Edinburgh office on George Street in 2020 to service a wide range of housing, commercial and renewable energy clients.

The company appointed Sam Edwards (formerly of CBRE) to assist in leading the office and growing the company with the founding directors. Sam has recently been promoted from associate to company director. The Edinburgh office is supported by the recent appointments of Georgia Burborough (senior planner), Will Hewson and Anna Hall (assistant planners).

A long-standing member of the team, Ruaraidh Thompson, provides a senior planner role based in the Scottish Borders. The company are currently recruiting for an administrative assistant in the Galashiels office and for a further planning consultant preferably with experience in the housing and renewable energy sectors.

The Scottish Government’s recent introduction of the National Planning Framework 4 has begun to place further requirements on local authorities and developers and the company is providing ongoing advice to those seeking to comply or adapt their investment portfolios.

Commenting on the company’s anniversary, Tim Ferguson, managing director, said: “It is hard to believe that it is ten years already! It is a proud moment to reach this milestone and it would not be possible without the support of all the team here and our loyal clients and associates in the development industry.

“We pride ourselves on being truly independent and working hard to deliver permissions for clients big or small. Providing a personal, professional and friendly service is what has been at the heart of the business over this time. Repeat business from clients and associates again has been critical.

“The company continues to be heavily involved in the residential and commercial sectors with a significant uplift recently in rural and renewable energy projects. The positive mood music emanating from the recent NPF4 release has not gone unnoticed in the industry.

“Personally, I would like to say a big thanks to all those that have supported us over the last ten years and we look forward to planning for the next ten years!”
