Fife Council welcomes £240m for Kirkcaldy regeneration

Fife Council has welcomed £240 million in UK government funding for the regeneration of Kirkcaldy’s high street and seafront.

The capital funding was confirmed as part of the recent spending review and will be allocated between 2026/27 and 2029/30 to support projects aimed at creating local jobs and revitalising communities.

Ken Gourlay, chief executive of Fife Council, said: “The announcement is a significant milestone for Kirkcaldy and for Fife as a whole.

“The prioritisation of Kirkcaldy’s High Street and seafront for investment through the UK Government’s new Growth Mission Fund is a welcome recognition of the town’s potential and the hard work of our communities and partners.

“Fife Council has long been committed to the regeneration of Kirkcaldy town centre, and this new funding will help us accelerate our plans to create a vibrant, inclusive and economically resilient town. We are already progressing key projects, including the demolition of the Esplanade multistorey car parks and the redevelopment of the former Postings site. This new support will allow us to build on that momentum.

“We look forward to working closely with the UK government and community stakeholders to ensure this investment delivers real and lasting benefits for the people of Kirkcaldy.”

Councillr David Ross, leader of Fife Council, added: “This is a clear signal that our town is back on the national agenda. The Chancellor’s decision to prioritise Kirkcaldy for investment through the Growth Mission Fund is a direct result of strong local advocacy and a shared vision for renewal.

“Fife Council stands ready to deliver. We have a clear plan for regeneration and a strong partnership with our communities.

“With this new funding, we can continue transforming Kirkcaldy into the thriving, modern town centre our residents deserve – one that creates jobs, supports businesses, and reflects the pride we all have in the Lang Toun.”
