Gordon Adam, of Black Isle Yurts Ltd, wants to create a campsite of yurts near Rosemarkie.

There will be eight tents on the site north-east of Hillockhead.

The yurts, based on the large tents used by Mongolian nomads, will be 16ft in diameter and 13ft high.

The company hopes its venture will tap into the trend for “glamorous camping” or “glamping,” which has become popular in recent years.

The yurts will be erected on top of timber decking and constructed with a timber frame that will be wrapped in fabric.

Mr Adam also sought planning permission for a facilities block, including toilets and showers, and a workshop for the maintenance of the yurts.

There was a further separate application f or a house next to the campsite for a live-in manager.

There are also plans to keep livestock on the site.

But the plan had attracted support and opposition in equal measure.

The council received 16 objections and 17 letters of support.

Objectors, including Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council, were concerned that the site was inappropriate and isolated and would have an impact on a nearby Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Supporters, however, said it would provide distinctive tourist accommodation and increase the attraction of the Highlands.

But councillors were unanimous in their approval and Councillor Angela Maclean said it was an excellent plan.
