First Minister of Scotland John Swinney visited a newly completed Hillcrest development in Dundee, which has delivered another 18 homes towards the city’s provision of affordable housing.
With the Scottish Government’s Housing to 2040 objective aiming to deliver a considerable boost of affordable homes across Scotland, the First Minister was shown round this latest completion, hearing about the various energy efficient technologies included to reduce bills for tenants.
The Coupar Angus Road development marks a significant transformation of the site, which was previously home to the city’s Park Hotel. The hotel closed its doors in 2018, and demolition began the following year to make way for much-needed affordable housing in the area.
Construction of the new apartments began in 2022 and was carried out by George Martin Builders Ltd. The modern, energy efficient homes have now been handed over, and tenants have already begun moving in, bringing new life to the location.
John Alexander, Hillcrest chief executive, said: “This development is a fantastic example of how repurposed brownfield sites can have new life breathed into them to provide high-quality, affordable homes for people who need them most.
“The Coupar Angus Road development forms part of Hillcrest Homes’ ongoing commitment to tackling housing shortages and creating vibrant communities across Dundee and beyond.”
