First phase of 2,500-home Elgin development seeks council approval

Construction of the first phase of a 2,500-home development in the south of Elgin could begin later this year, subject to approval from Moray Council.

The council has been working with Springfield Properties for the past two years on a three-decade masterplan for the area, which also includes two primary schools, a sports centre, a cemetery, shops and medical facilities.

The development will take the form of three linked villages to be known as Linkwood, Easter Linkwood and Wester Linkwood.

The masterplan has since been approved, and councillors will now consider a planning application for the first phase of the development.

The first phase includes Linkwood Primary School, the sports centre and 870 homes.

Extra planning applications will need to be submitted before work on future phases can begin.
