Flagship Young Engineers Conference hosted in Glasgow for the first time

IStructE is inviting young engineers from across the profession to attend its flagship Young Engineers Conference in June, taking place for the first time in Glasgow.

Now in its 28th year, the conference has become a key date in the industry calendar, bringing engineers together to explore practical insights and technical standards across the sector. Sessions explore the challenges of working with existing structures, alongside the restoration, maintenance and reuse of buildings and infrastructure.

The conference brings together a strong line-up of speakers, including conference chair Kalina Dimitrova, senior project engineer; Professor Luke Bisby, personal chair of Fire and Structures at the University of Edinburgh; and Mark Lawler, chair of the Scottish Registration Board.

An exclusive pre-conference site visit to the Paisley Museum refurbishment project offers delegates a rare opportunity to explore one of Scotland’s largest cultural heritage developments. The guided visit will provide insight into how historic and modern structural systems are being integrated to transform the Victorian building into a contemporary, accessible space.

The conference will address the importance of effective communication in engineering practice, equipping attendees with tools to explain technical risk and decision-making clearly to clients and non-technical stakeholders. Professional responsibility and quality assurance sessions highlight how a strong culture of safety must be embedded across projects and organisations.

Reflecting on the value of this must-attend annual conference, 2025 attendee Daniel Mirtorabi said: “Attending the 2025 Conference was a turning point for me. I gained invaluable insights into the sector, grew my technical experience and understood new perspectives on the industry.”

Another 2025 attendee, Md Yushairi, added: “I really valued how it was structured to remain highly relevant for the next generation of engineers while still offering meaningful perspectives for engineers at my stage of professional development, offering real-world insight.”
