‘Floating’ holiday lodges planned at Angus resort

The Forbes of Kingennie leisure resort near Dundee has submitted plans to Angus Council for a unique development of floating holiday lodges on one of its former fishing ponds.
The proposal outlines the creation of nine prefabricated lodges, seven one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units, on the resort’s easternmost lochan, situated to the east of the main restaurant and function suite.
Each lodge would feature a private balcony offering scenic views across the water, and be equipped with a drainage pump connected to a new pumping station installed under a previous approval. The planning application also includes designs for access ramps and mooring arrangements to support the lodges.
This latest development marks a new phase in Forbes of Kingennie’s long-term masterplan to expand its visitor offering in response to rising demand. The resort, already popular as a wedding venue, previously secured planning permission for four other holiday units.
Planning agents Voigt Architects described the proposal as a valuable addition to the local tourism sector, stating: “We believe the proposal helps improve the local offering of unique holiday accommodation, which should also benefit the surrounding towns and community.” They noted that the plans align with previous applications and comply with local tourism development policies.
