Footway resurfacing and road safety upgrades begin on the A78 at Wemyss Bay

Footway and road safety improvements on the A78 at the Ardgowan Road in Wemyss Bay have begun.

The work is being undertaken by Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit.

Work will take place from Monday 5th June until Friday 14th July 2023, between the hours of 9:30am and 4pm each day.

This scheme, with a value of £106,000, will benefit around 11,800 vehicles using this route each day, by widening and improving the condition of the footpath, reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future. Road safety upgrades will include an improved junction for pedestrians with new crossing points and a refuge island to access the bus stop on the A78 southbound.

The work will be carried out using daytime temporary traffic lights installed at this location. We thank road users for their patience while these upgrades take place. This is the first phase of trunk road improvements at this junction, with resurfacing also due to take place towards the latter end of this programme of works.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
