Frasers Group eyes multi-million redevelopment for Glasgow store

Frasers Group, predominantly owned by Mike Ashley, has plans to significantly upgrade its iconic House of Fraser store on Buchanan Street, Glasgow.

The initiative follows the group’s strategy, transitioning from a value-based retailer to high-end luxury fashion through a series of acquisitions.

The group is currently seeking planning permission for a major renovation project to transform House of Fraser, a staple on Glasgow’s retail scene for 170 years, into a prominent luxury retail destination. The upgrade would include a range of new high-end brands and partners. Once approved, work is expected to commence within a year, The Herald reports.

The business, formerly Sports Direct International, has expanded beyond sports goods into premium fashion brands, including Jack Wills, Base Childrenswear, Giulio, and Nicholas Deakins.

Frasers Group has been bolstering its presence in the retail property sector, as seen in their acquisition of Dundee’s main shopping centre, the Overgate Centre, estimated to be worth around £30 million.
