CCG (Scotland) has appointed long-serving employee and a key architect of its Technical Department, Gary Weir, to its board.
Gary’s promotion to technical director underscores CCG’s continued commitment to excellence in pre-construction, quality assurance, and innovation, and he joins a board led by chairman and CEO, Alastair Wylie, group managing director, David Wylie, and group financial director, Bernie Rooney.
David said: “It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Gary to our board. His work in recent years has helped CCG and our subsidiaries navigate a sustained period of market volatility and cost inflationary pressures, and I have no doubt that the foundations he has laid alongside his departmental team members will be incredibly valuable to us in the years ahead.”
Gary’s journey with CCG began in 2006 as a site manager, progressing to project manager with a strong focus on residential delivery.
A decade ago, recognising the growing complexity and demands of modern construction, he led the formation of a new Technical Department – a move that has since proven transformative for the business.
“The idea was to create a focused pre-construction service team that delivered a full suite of design and delivery information to smooth the onsite construction process for our construction teams and ensure a design-compliant project.
“As our team and approach have evolved, the service has become an incredibly valuable tool not just for CCG, but also to our clients and design partners.”
Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the CCG Technical Department is a diverse multi disciplined team of nine, who integrate with CCG’s eight in-house divisions to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory requirements, while their best practice guidance on costs, programming, buildability, and sustainability is designed create added value and drive efficiencies throughout the life cycle of each project.
During this decade of innovation, Gary has not only built a highly skilled team but also a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
After a brief spell away from the business in 2019, he returned to lead a leaner, more focused department.
“That period really clarified our purpose,” he says. “It was all about refining our processes—from how we programme jobs, to how we communicate change – and making sure we added value from day one rather than being involved at a later stage.
“By doing so, we can broker solutions to realise real cost and time savings, a fundamental advantage during a time of housing emergency and cost-inflationary pressures.”
What sets the CCG Technical Department apart is its embedded position within the wider business. Rather than operate as a standalone unit, the team works hand-in-hand with every internal division – from site delivery to manufacturing – to co-develop project strategies. As Gary puts it, “Everyone wants an extra set of eyes. We’re here to help make the project better, safer, faster, and compliant.”
That team-first ethos also extends to the supply chain. The department actively collaborates with consultants, regulatory bodies, and industry groups – Gary himself having contributed to Scottish Government working groups on housing and construction policy.
“Compliance isn’t just about ticking boxes,” he notes. “It’s about improving protocols, identifying gaps, and reporting them statistically to support better cost and quality control.”
With his appointment to the Board, Gary’s focus now turns to embedding that same culture of value and precision across CCG’s wider strategic vision.
“Senior managers at CCG are very hands-on. We’re responsible for making sure projects are not only deliverable, but affordable, sustainable, and maintenance-friendly,” he says.
“My priority is to help the business scale by strengthening our compliance protocols and systems—essentially building an ‘imaginary conveyor belt’ that moves projects smoothly from concept to site.”
Gary’s board-level insight will ensure that the company continues to lead the way in quality delivery and client service, with a firm eye on innovation and workforce development.
As the sector navigates ever-increasing complexity, CCG’s in-house Technical Department—under his leadership—will remain a core asset in driving efficiency, meeting regulatory demands, and delivering homes and buildings that stand the test of time.
