Glasgow City Council has approved £15.68 million for the creation of a new community hub at James Lindsay Park in Baillieston.

The facility will provide modern community events space for organisations, families and children throughout the Baillieston area and access to high-quality sports, health and leisure facilities.

The Baillieston Community Hub will see local residents benefit from a brand new gym, multi-sports courts, a new library and the integration of some council services on their doorstep.

The hub has been secured through Community Growth Funding, financial contributions made by developers on completion of housing developments within the area.

The views of local residents on what they would want from the facility has been integral to the development of the plans. An intensive community consultation saw over 1000 responses when proposals were presented in 2021.

A planning application is expected to be submitted in the coming months and subject to approval it is hoped that work will begin before the end of the year. Ongoing community consultation will help guide the final design of the hub.

The Baillieston Community Hub will be operated by Glasgow Life on behalf of Glasgow City Council.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for Neighbourhood Assets and Services at Glasgow City Council, said: “This is a momentous day in the long-term work towards delivering a community hub for Baillieston.

“The facility will meet the needs of people of the area, who have continued to show a huge interest in the proposals for the hub. They know what Baillieston has long required and that’s why they continue to help shape a resource which will benefit residents for generations to come.”
