Glasgow charities share £50k donation from HFD Charitable Foundation

Eight charities supporting communities across the Glasgow area are set to receive a share of £50,000 from the HFD Charitable Foundation – the charitable arm of the commercial property company.

Funding will support local organisations that make a real difference in their communities through a range of initiatives focused on social inclusion, youth development and wellbeing support, providing essential assistance to individuals and families across the region.

The organisations selected for funding include Alive & Kicking, a project working to promote social inclusion among elderly and disabled people in Springburn; Venture Scotland, Scotland’s only provider of long-term, outdoor-based, personal development for young adults; and Nil by Mouth, a charity tackling sectarianism and promoting cultural and religious diversity in football.

Donations will also go to HopScotch Children’s Charity, Shakespeare Street Youth Club, Glasgow Riding for the Disabled Association, The Children’s Heart Federation and Starter Packs Glasgow, which helps people move from homelessness to tenancy by providing essentials such as bedding, utensils and toiletries.

Lauren McKenzie, trustee of the HFD Charitable Foundation, said: “We are pleased to be in the position once again to provide funding to incredible organisations that are making a tangible difference in local people’s lives. From supporting young people and families to tackling social isolation and improving wellbeing, each of these charities provides vital services for their networks. All eight of these inspiring charities are new to the Charitable Foundation and it is great to expand our reach to even more good causes that our employees are keen to support.”

As a result of the funding, HopScotch Children’s Charity will be able to provide 24 children from Glasgow, who face challenging circumstances with a week-long break at Ardvullin its Respite Centre near Glencoe. Each HopScotch break offers a variety of enriching activities including horse riding, canoeing, tubing, team games, indoor climbing, and exploring local beaches. Experiences are designed to encourage play, fun, and personal growth in a positive environment, helping to increase confidence and resilience in children, enriching their knowledge and foster a lifelong appreciation for the world around them with joyful memories that will last a lifetime.

Roberta McKay, co-founder at HopScotch Children’s Charity, shared: “Founded 26 years ago, HopScotch is a beacon of hope for Scotland’s children in the most deprived communities. We provide tailored respite breaks that bring joy and relaxation, while equipping children with essential life and social skills. Our mission allows them to create cherished memories that last a lifetime, and financial support through organisations like HFD is crucial in making this dream a reality.”
