Energy and infrastructure solutions provider Global has acquired engineering and modular solutions provider Pier Solutions and has launched Global Modular, in a bid to invest in modular capability.

Global Modular has been set up to address a growing market opportunity for standardised and engineered modular solutions, particularly within transmission-critical infrastructure and wider EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) developments within the energy and utilities sectors.

Pier Solutions’ 20-person team will transfer into Global Modular, with the business anticipated to increase to a headcount of 100 within a year, resulting in up to 80 new roles.

The investment represents progress in Global’s objective to deliver end-to-end services for the energy sector, in a bid to to provide more coordinated and efficient project delivery.

Global Modular will be based in Kintore and Inverurie, Pier’s two existing sites. The main facility in Inverurie spans 44,000 square feet and has integrated corporate and engineering offices as well as a workshop which has overhead lifting cranes.

At present, the energy and infrastructure solutions provider is operating in the modular space through consultancy and design businesses, Apollo and Arthian.

Global is also working with different operators on solutions for transmission infrastructure.

Gordon Farmer, board director at Global, said: “We have listened closely to the market and to the challenges facing major energy projects — and the message is clear: clients want joined-up, end-to-end solutions delivered by partners they trust.

“Global Modular is a critical first step in developing that capability. By combining modular solutions with the strength of our wider Group — including consultancy, logistics, construction and delivery — we are positioning Global at the centre of the energy transition, supporting a more efficient and sustainable future for Scotland and the wider UK.”
