McTaggart Construction has achieved Gold Standard during its recent Investors In People and Investors In Young People review, ends a positive year for the group which has built over 330 homes across central Scotland in 2017.

The assessment explored practices and outcomes under three performance headings: leading, supporting and improving, and have resulted in a higher level for the company.

The mandatory nine question survey completed during the employee interview element of the assessment, provided positive feedback for the business including 91% of people agreeing or strongly agreeing that they feel appreciated for the work they do and over 90% agreement for feeling motivated, empowered and fulfilled by their work.

The business was also commended for its open and transparent culture by the assessor’s report, noting “your people are motivated by the knowledge, enthusiasm and passion of the directors”.

McTaggart Group’s managing director, Gary Climson, said “Achieving the Gold Standard represents a significant accomplishment in the 70 year history of the business. We don’t measure ourselves in terms of turnover increases, our focus is on providing high quality housing and service excellence, which can only be done with the best people. This strategy has resulted in steady growth and satisfied clients.”

In March this year, McTaggart’s chairman Ross McTaggart retired after 52 years in the business, satisfied that the future of the business was in capable hands with a sustainable long-term strategy.

Commenting on the future of the group of businesses, Gary Climson said: “We are going into 2018 with a clear vision to build sustainable homes and partnerships which go beyond bricks and mortar, adding tangible value to the communities we help create.

“Our 5 year business plan, which we recently communicated to staff, is based on several longer term projects which we have recently secured together with the anticipated workload from a number of framework appointments. Next year will represent a pivotal year in terms of our growth, with over 750 units being delivered.”

McTaggart Group have embraced Community Benefits, clauses introduced to public procurement by the Scottish Government nearly ten years ago, and have invested in the creation of their bespoke Sustainable Communities Programme. This programme facilitated the delivery of over 300 jobs, training and education support events last year and contributed over £50,000 in financial donations, labour and material contributions.

Laurel Homes, the private home building brand of the group, also ended the year on a high by recently announcing their Fitzalan Court development in Whitecraigs was sold out. Laurel will break ground on two new developments in Gourock and Beith in January.
