Gordons Construction Equipment pushes into Perthshire with new depot
Gordons Construction Equipment is expanding its footprint across Scotland with the opening of a new depot in Blairgowrie — the family‑owned firm’s seventh site and its first construction‑only base.
The move marks a significant step north for the Castle Douglas‑headquartered business, which currently operates six depots across Carlisle and the south‑west of Scotland.
Founded in 1865 by James Gordon and owned by the Montgomerie family for the past century, the company originally specialised in agricultural machinery before diversifying into construction equipment in 2017. It has since become Scotland’s exclusive dealership for Develon.
The Blairgowrie opening forms part of a wider growth strategy as Gordons becomes a licensed dealer for two additional major brands complementing its existing Develon range.
Kevin Fraser, one of four directors, said the expanded portfolio gives customers “the full spectrum of kit they need for every scale of project”, while the new depot improves access for contractors across the east and north of Scotland.
The Blairgowrie site will stock a broad range of plant for sectors including housebuilding, factory construction, landscaping, joinery, waste handling, forestry and peatland restoration. The depot will also provide parts and engineer support, improving response times for customers in the region.
The premises were purchased from retiring owner Fergus Mitchell, with Gordons saying it intends to build on the strong local reputation he established. Ahead of opening, local contractors have been appointed to install hard standing, create a new workshop and showroom, and prepare the site for operations. Sustainability features include solar panels on the roof and plans for electric vehicle chargers.
