Govan homes benefit from major tenement window upgrade

The investment is improving comfort, reducing energy bills and enhancing the appearance of properties across the area.

Tenants living in 64 homes have already benefited from new high‑performance double‑glazed windows by Govan Housing Group. In the first year of the programme, 397 single‑glazed windows were replaced. A further 365 windows are scheduled for installation in the current financial year.

The works were delivered by Home Team, the group’s in‑house repairs and maintenance service. Home Team specialises in working with housing associations and in occupied homes, and also supports organisations across the central belt including Cernach Housing Association, Provanhall Housing Association and Elderpark Housing Association.

The Home Team worked in partnership with Govan Housing Association and conservation specialists DO Architecture to ensure the window design was fit for purpose and complied with Glasgow City Council’s planning requirements.

This process involved trialling the proposed windows in several pilot properties, allowing the team to assess different materials and installation methods. The pilots helped identify the most suitable solution in terms of thermal performance, as well as durability and practicality of installation. 

Home Team’s dedicated customer contact officer and experience of working exclusively with housing associations helped secure high access rates and smooth delivery. Tenants awarded the programme a 100% quality score in its first year.

The five‑year window replacement programme will make many of Govan’s traditional tenements easier to heat, more energy efficient and more resilient. It will also reduce future maintenance needs and improve day‑to‑day living conditions for tenants.
