Green light for 800 homes and new community hub at Inverugie

Plans for a major development of up to 800 new homes on the outskirts of Peterhead have been granted planning permission in principle.

Developer Claymore Homes is set to transform land alongside the A90 at Inverugie, in a project that will also include a new primary school and a community hub.

The plans reserve space for a potential railway station, aligning with long-term aspirations to reconnect Peterhead to the north-east rail network.

The proposal backed by Aberdeenshire Council’s Buchan area committee marks a reduction in scale from an initial masterplan unveiled in 2016, which had envisaged 1,115 homes.

Claymore Homes also scaled back the amount of employment land, citing a surplus in Peterhead and challenges in renting or selling existing commercial sites, The Press and Journal reports.

The committee unanimously agreed to grant planning permission in principle, allowing the significant housing development to proceed to the next stage of planning.
