Set to replace the existing five and six-storey 1960s blocks of flats, the properties form phases two and three of the masterplan for the St Andrew’s Drive, Shields Road, Maxwell Drive and St John’s Road area.

Under plans brought forward by JM Architects, a mix of one, two and three-bed apartments, two-bed wheelchair accessible apartments and three and four-bed main-door maisonettes will be delivered across 14 buildings blocks which vary in height from one to four floors.

The architects wrote: “The variation in storey height across the blocks is a direct reference back to the adjacent villa massing. A variety of block types will be designed, with brick adopted to echo the colour palette of the existing context. We believe this will reinforce a response which proposes an appropriate scale and form.”

The second and third phases will replicate the properties completed during phase one

In 2019, Southside Housing Association struck a £30 million deal with Handelsbanken plc to help finance new build properties and a comprehensive programme of housing improvements.
