The move, which was agreed at a meeting of the planning board yesterday, will allow the final project design to be progressed to financial close, subject to council approval.

The new school will be built within the grounds of Boclair Academy and will replace the existing school building. It is scheduled to open in summer 2022 with development adhering to all relevant Scottish Government and Public Health guidance during the current health crisis.

The application was lodged by the council through Ryder Architecture and outlined the building layout including external sports spaces, car parking, landscaping, and associated works such as drainage.

Joint leader of the council, Councillor Vaughan Moody, said, “This decision by the planning board allows us to move forward with delivering a state-of-the-art new secondary school to replace the existing Boclair Academy within Bearsden. This is welcome news for the school and the local community.”

Fellow joint leader of the council, Councillor Andrew Polson, added: “Many of Boclair’s current pupils, and those still to come, can now look forward to learning in a fantastic building that is fit-for-purpose.  This will greatly enhance the educational experience for all who attend now and in the future.”

Subject to council approval, an enabling works phase will commence during the October break and continue until Christmas, with the main works due to start in January 2021.
