Simply UK signalled the start of construction for a £15 million care home and retirement living development in North Berwick with a ground-breaking ceremony last week.

Covering 3,919.81m2, the 70-bed complex will accommodate residents from both private and public sectors, and contains private dining areas, a cinema, beauty parlour and several lounges for relaxing.

Construction director Alex Mclean said the development is the first in a number of new care home projects currently planned for Scotland in 2021.

“Through learnings from previous projects, we have taken a more focused approach on increasing the scope at the front end of the planned site activities,” he said. “This involves taking the services infrastructure, roads and parking to a finished state prior to the steel frame erection.”

The project will be delivered by Advance Construction Scotland.

Mr Mclean added: “Having Advance Construction Scotland as key team members on this development gives us real confidence in achieving this objective. We continue to adopt best practice and more innovative ways of working, to limit both on site activities and the timeframes on delivery.

“We have a number of value-add solutions that have been adopted and are now cemented into our build process. Learning and adopting best practice is a key way of working for all our site and support teams. On the North Berwick project, we are planning for a 15% reduction in our average delivery period.”

Work is due to complete in summer 2022.
