Groundforce appoints new engineering director

Oliver Smith

Shoring specialist Groundforce Shorco has promoted its head of UK engineering design Oliver Smith to engineering director.

In his new role as director of engineering, Oliver will also be responsible for EU major projects, development, and digitisation teams in addition to the UK shoring and major projects design teams which he currently manages.

He said: “The key challenge from my previous role to this new one will be leading our technical strategy for development and digitisation of the business as we embrace the evolution of technology and customer service.”

Oliver is a Chartered Civil Engineer and a Chartered Manager with more than 14 years’ experience working for consultants, contractors and suppliers, and specialising in temporary works, geotechnics and structural design.

He first began working at Groundforce in 2011 fulfilling design roles within the shoring and major projects teams before leaving to take on various senior engineering and project management roles at Kier and Mott MacDonald. He re-joined the Groundforce business in 2021 as head of UK engineering design. He has a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with Construction Management from Leeds University.

Groundforce managing director Paul Donovan added:” This promotion was an easy decision for us. Oliver has demonstrated his technical ability and management skills over the past two years, and I am confident he will continue to ensure our technical and design teams continue to deliver and develop innovative engineering solutions for our customers.”
