Heat pump training unit arrives in the Shetland isles

Shetland Islands Council staff are among those benefitting from a visit to Lerwick by a fully-equipped mobile classroom to deliver certified heat pump training.

A tutor from South Lanarkshire College arrived in Shetland in a specially adapted vehicle, with all the resources to deliver training on heat pumps, unvented hot water cylinders and water bylaws. Shetland Islands Council and local energy firm Nordri Ltd have nine employees taking part in the week-long training event.

Staff from the council’s estate operations team are attending the training to learn more about heat pumps as part of an overall programme of energy efficiency work on Council properties.

The mobile centre is part of a Scottish Government initiative, led by the Energy Saving Trust, to take training to rural areas of Scotland to avoid students having to attend training centres on the Scottish Mainland.

Carl Symons, executive manager – environment & estate operations, said: “The training in new technologies to improve the energy efficiency of properties is in demand. Having this certified training delivered locally is a huge benefit for our staff and will help us with our installations to deliver on our net zero targets.”
