Historic Aberdeen jeweller plans multi-million-pound Union Street revamp

Aberdeen’s Jamieson & Carry, an independent, family-owned jewellery business founded in 1733, has unveiled the next phase of its multi-million-pound expansion plans at its Union Street store.

A planning application to combine the existing store at 142 Union Street with the neighbouring building at 136 Union Street (former an All-Saints store), has now been submitted for planning approval.

The move is part of continued plans to improve the customer experience at its store and maintain itself as an attractive luxury retail space and shopping destination in the UK.



The development will more than double the retail space within the store, allowing for an expanded Patek Philippe showroom and a new TUDOR Watch shop-in-shop presence. It will also pave the way for the opening of Aberdeen’s first dedicated Rolex Boutique.

The expansion also allows for a strengthening of Jamieson & Carry’s jewellery presence, with additional space to showcase their growing list of luxury jewellery brands including FOPE, Faberge and Roberto Coin.

Philip Carry, partner at Jamieson & Carry, said: “In November last year we announced ambitious multi-million-pound plans to expand our Union Street presence here in Aberdeen. Since then, lots of work has gone on behind the scenes to prepare our detailed planning application for the store.



“With a historic building that dates back to 1794, getting to this point has not been without its challenges. We have worked closely with our architectural team and the City of Aberdeen Planning Department to deliver a retail presence that is fit for purpose whilst ensuring we are extremely sensitive to the history, character and charm of the building itself.”

Mr Carry continued: “We remain committed to Union Street, to Aberdeen City Centre, and to the North-East and we are confident this development will be a catalyst to help drive the collective effort to regenerate and improve our city centre.

“All being well, we look forward to continuing with our development plans and undertaking the construction works required to make this dream a reality.”

The further development of the store is subject to the planning approval process. Works are scheduled to begin in early January 2024 with completion scheduled for Autumn 2024.
