Hotel plan brought forward for key Glasgow city centre site

Plans have emerged for a major new hotel development at one of Glasgow’s most prominent city‑centre locations.

A proposal is being marketed that could deliver around 170 bedrooms on a landmark site at the junction of Argyle Street and Jamaica Street — described as one of the city’s most visible and best‑connected spots.

CDLH Leisure Hospitality & Healthcare Surveyors is overseeing what it calls a “superb new hotel and leisure opportunity” in the heart of Glasgow. The site is surrounded by major retail, dining and entertainment venues and sits within the core commercial and cultural district.



Existing development proposals include designs for a 139‑room (537‑bed) hostel, with scope to reconfigure the scheme into a 155–170‑room hotel depending on operator requirements.

According to CDLH, Ediston — acting for Clydebuilt — has now brought the opportunity to market, highlighting its immediate proximity to Glasgow Central Station and easy access to Buchanan Street, Queen Street Station and the International Financial Services District. The location offers “exceptional visibility, footfall and accessibility”.

Glasgow continues to rank as one of the strongest hotel markets in the UK outside London, with city‑centre occupancy typically sitting between 80% and 85%, supported by a robust mix of business, leisure and events demand.

The site’s closeness to the Scottish Event Campus, major corporate offices and key transport links is said to provide strong year‑round trading potential.



CDLH added that the location is well suited to limited‑service hotels, aparthotels or high‑quality hostel operators seeking a flagship presence in the city centre, describing the Argyle Street site as a rare chance to secure a large‑scale hospitality asset in a proven, high‑performing destination.
