Housing proposals revealed for Gartloch Farm

Proposals to deliver a residential-led development, including a mixed-use neighbourhood centre, are proposed on land at Gartloch Farm, neighbouring Easterhouse in Glasgow’s East End.

Promoted by Apsley (Gartloch) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of property developer Apsley House Capital, the development will progress the delivery of development on a 49-hectare site allocated for residential development in Glasgow City Council’s adopted City Development Plan.

In addition, there will be local retail and community facilities to meet residents’ needs and complement existing nearby facilities at Glasgow Fort.

Encompassing new housing and commercial use, the allocated development will foster a strong sense of community, supported by an improved network of formal and informal green spaces that bring people together, including allotments.

A network of accessible routes will prioritise walking and cycling, creating safe and attractive connections throughout the landscape. The design is also sympathetic to transport requirements and links within the area, with increased active travel included alongside road network upgrades.

A landscape-led development, it will also improve access to the Seven Lochs Wetland Park, Scotland’s largest urban heritage and nature park, responding to the site’s landscape and natural features.

Apsley (Gartloch) Limited has now submitted a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) to Glasgow City Council and other key stakeholders. This signifies the formal notice of intent to submit an application for Planning Permission in Principle (PPiP) following a minimum 12-week period of consultation.

This period of pre-application consultation will comprise two public consultation events on 22nd April and 24th June at St Benedict’s Catholic Church on Westerhouse Road, Easterhouse, between 3 pm and 7 pm.

As part of the Galliard Apsley Partnership (with Galliard Homes), Apsley House Capital has a history of involvement in Glasgow, with consent to deliver more than 1,700 homes and student rooms at the former College Street Goods Yard near Glasgow’s High Street.

The 7.5-acre site, once home to Glasgow University’s original campus and later a railway goods yard, has lain vacant for decades and was most recently used as a car park.

A spokesperson for Apsley (Gartloch) Limited said: “We are delighted to be bringing forward these landscape-led proposals, which will progress a site allocated in Glasgow’s Local Development Plan and assist the city in tackling the housing emergency and deliver a strong sense of community.

“In addition to new housing, our proposals will also include a new mixed-use neighbourhood centre potentially comprising shops, cafes, restaurants and other commercial uses, supporting this new housing.

“Our ethos is for a landscape-led development which sensitively improves biodiversity and the natural environment. In tandem, if approved, the project will form a significant part of Glasgow’s NPF4 goal of delivering 21,350 homes to tackle the emergency over the next 10 years.

“Through the consultation process, we are looking forward to receiving input from the local community, who will play a vital role in shaping our proposals.”
