The development of the new Alford Community Campus and Noss Primary School have earned national recognition for raising the bar for considerate construction.

Both projects, which were delivered on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council and The Highland Council respectively by hub North Scotland, have achieved a Bronze and Silver placing at the recent Considerate Constructors Scheme’s National Site Awards.

Both projects were praised for the measures put in place that allowed the sites to be more considerate towards local neighbourhoods, the public, the workforce and the environment.

Formed in 1999, the scheme has been rewarding the UK’s most considerate sites for the contribution they have made towards improving the image of construction. The appearance of a construction site, showing respect to the community, minimising the impact of air, light and noise pollution alongside appropriate initiatives for continuous safety improvements are just some of the attributes that the scheme places importance upon.

Alford Community Campus and Noss Primary School have both been handed over by hub North Scotland in the last six months amidst a backdrop of praise from key partners and stakeholders, including staff and pupils who use the facilities on a daily basis.

Chief executive, Angus Macfarlane, is delighted that both projects have been recognised in this way.

He said: “Consideration of the site’s surroundings, the environment, the community it is within and the workforce on site itself remains an integral focus of all hub North Scotland projects so to be recognised with two national awards is extremely pleasing.

“Our operating territory spans the length and breadth of northern Scotland, from Oban and Dunoon right through to Shetland and with each individual project comes its own unique set of challenges, whether it is weather, site location or even the build itself. Preparation for these challenges is key and overcoming them is vital to maintaining a project that is considerate to its location and its people.”

hub North Scotland comprises Alba Community Partnerships (a joint venture of Galliford Try Investments, Equitix and Sweett Investment Services), Scottish Futures Trust and 16 Northern Territory Partners, working with local suppliers and contractors to deliver quality buildings and services.
