The contracts division at construction firm Insite Group has completed a significant refurbishment project at the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA) Hearing Centre on Bell Street, Glasgow.

The Glasgow project involved a comprehensive structural and interior transformation designed to create a modern, flexible, and welcoming facility to accommodate children’s hearings. The newly refurbished premises were officially opened by The Scottish Government’s Minister for Children, Young People and Keeping The Promise, Natalie Don-Innes MSP.

The Bell Street project required a complete overhaul of the existing infrastructure. Insite Contracts executed extensive structural upgrades and a total modernisation of all building systems.

A primary focus of the renovation was enhancing safety standards, which included:

  • The full installation of new fire alarm systems.
  • Upgrading of internal fire doors throughout the premises.
  • Comprehensive improvements to general fire safety protocols.

Beyond structural health, the brief required a complete interior redesign to better serve the families and staff using the building. The works included reconfiguring the hearing centre to improve flow and accessibility.

Key deliverables included a new reception counter to provide a welcoming entry point, the reconfiguration of internal layouts, and the renovation of both the ground and first-floor toilets. Significant Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) works were also undertaken to future-proof the building’s operations.

The successful delivery of the Glasgow Bell Street facility has led directly to further collaboration. Following a competitive tender, Insite Contracts has been selected to undertake the refurbishment of the SCRA’s Dundee Hearing Centre. This new appointment validates the team’s ability to deliver complex projects that meet the specific needs of the SCRA.

A critical requirement of the Glasgow contract was Insite Contracts’ ability to operate within a live environment. The SCRA offices remained fully operational throughout the construction phase. The Insite Contracts team implemented rigorous planning and logistical management to ensure minimal disruption to building occupiers.

Marny Jackson, property development manager at Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration, commented on the transformation: “Insite Contracts were diligent and proactive throughout the project. They worked with us to ensure the hearing centre remained operational for the duration of the works and were very accommodating. The work was well managed and finished to a very high standard.”
