Iron & Pine to deliver modular office at Falkirk Wheel
Dalbeattie-based modular construction company Iron & Pine has secured a contract with Scottish Canals to deliver a high-quality and sustainable modular office at the iconic Falkirk Wheel.
The project will see Iron & Pine design and build a modern modular office space to support Scottish Canals’ holiday boat hire operations at one of Scotland’s most visited tourist attractions. The win represents a significant milestone for the growing company and highlights the strength of innovation and craftsmanship emerging from the Galloway region.
The modular building will provide a welcoming, functional environment for both staff and visitors, incorporating a reception area and secure storage facilities within a thoughtfully designed layout. Built using two 40ft high cube containers, the structure will be delivered in a fully operational “plug and play” format, ready for immediate connection on site.
Sustainability is at the heart of the project. The building will feature solar panels, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, an air source heat pump and high levels of insulation, ensuring energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact while maintaining comfort year-round.
Alistair Fell, co-founder of Iron & Pine, said: “Securing this contract with Scottish Canals is a hugely proud moment for us. As a small business based in Dalbeattie, it’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we do on such a high-profile stage.
“The Falkirk Wheel is one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks and welcomes around 500,000 visitors a year. To deliver a sustainable, high-quality modular building at such a recognised destination really shows how far our team and our Galloway-made product have come. We’re passionate about combining great design with low-impact construction and this project is a perfect example of that in action.”

Emma Neilson, development manager at Scottish Canals, said: “This exciting development will make it easier for visitors to enjoy Scotland’s waterways and help us deliver an even better experience for our boating customers.
“By moving the existing boat hire service from the visitor centre to a purpose-built space beside the canal and moorings, we will provide greater convenience for customers and improve operational efficiency for our team.”
Iron & Pine’s success in securing this competitive tender reflects both the company’s technical expertise and its commitment to delivering durable, environmentally responsible buildings that meet the evolving needs of clients across the country.
