Construction trade waste management firm J&M Murdoch & Son Ltd has taken delivery of the very first fully electric skip loader in Scotland.

After being showcased at APSE Scotland in May in partnership with Volvo Truck & Bus, the new Volvo FE 4x2 with Hiab Multilift is now ready to deliver and collect skips throughout the Glasgow area, from a range of valued construction, industrial and domestic customers.

The vehicle has a total energy storage of 265wkh from 4 traction batteries, 2 offside and 2 nearside.

“Electric Ted” will be highly visible with his distinctive livery expertly applied by Sneddon Signs Paisley.

J&M Murdoch & Son Ltd is progressing on its journey towards net zero at a rapid pace, helped along the way by initiatives including changing its car fleet to electric and hybrid vehicles, and ensuring the rest of its fleet is Euro 6 compliant.

Drew Murdoch, managing director, told SCN: We at J&M Murdoch & Son Ltd are delighted to be partnering with Volvo Truck & Bus Ltd in taking ownership of the first electric skip loader in Scotland. Serving our valued construction, industrial and domestic customers in and around the Glasgow area - we are committed to our journey towards net zero and reducing the environmental impact of waste management.”

John & Margaret Murdoch started in 1965 using one vehicle to carry animal feed from Paisley across the Scottish central belt. After 58 years the company is now run by the second generation of the Murdoch family with Drew, John and Helen at the helm, with a fleet of over 75 vehicles.
