Balfour Beatty has appointed Kay Slade as managing director of its UK Regional Civils business.

Effective from February, Kay will take over from Mark Arrandale, who has been serving as interim managing director of UK Regional Civils since October 2025, and will return to his position as finance director at the end of the month.

A qualified solicitor specialising in major projects, construction and engineering, Kay joined Balfour Beatty four years ago as managing counsel before taking on the position of area director for the company’s UK Regional Civils business in March 2024. Previously, she worked at Costain where she spent six years in both legal and corporate roles.

Kay has been instrumental in reshaping Balfour Beatty’s UK Regional Civils business in the North West of England, successfully consolidating its footprint, enhancing operational performance and overseeing the delivery of multiple award-winning projects across the transport and flood and coastal markets.

The appointment is testament to Balfour Beatty’s commitment to attracting, training and retaining its employees to offer customers the best capabilities and the quality leadership required to drive forward world-class projects.

Nick Crossfield, divisional CEO of Balfour Beatty’s UK Construction Services business, said: “Kay is an outstanding leader whose deep industry expertise and proven record of delivery speak for themselves. I am delighted she has agreed to take the helm as managing director as we look ahead to a strong pipeline of opportunities and continue to deliver for our customers.”

Kay Slade, incoming managing director of Balfour Beatty’s UK Regional Civils business, said: “I am honoured to assume this role and to lead such a highly skilled and dedicated team whose work consistently delivers meaningful and lasting benefits for the communities we serve.

“Having joined Balfour Beatty as Managing Counsel four years ago, progressing to managing director reflects both the breadth of opportunity available and the company’s strong commitment to developing talent and supporting career growth.”
