Steel, metal and cladding specialist KR Group Scotland has officially launched a new training division.

The firm said its KR SkillsHub initiative marks a significant investment in the future of Scotland’s construction workforce by delivering NPORS-accredited training tailored to real site conditions and the evolving demands of the industry.

Based at the KR Group’s headquarters in Newburgh, and operating across Scotland, the training provider offers a full suite of high-quality, nationally recognised training in lifting operations, working at height, earthworks, plant operation, and health and safety compliance. With mobile delivery options and courses designed by industry experts, KR SkillsHub is uniquely positioned to serve both employers and individuals seeking practical, career-advancing qualifications.

“Skills gaps and safety standards continue to challenge construction across the UK,” said Kenny Robertson, managing director of KR Group Scotland. “With KR SkillsHub, we’re making it easier than ever for contractors and workers to access the certified training they need — whether on-site or at our facility in Aberdeenshire.”

Backed by NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme), KR SkillsHub delivers accredited qualifications recognised throughout the UK. Its mission is to help employers stay compliant while empowering workers with skills that improve productivity, reduce risk, and open doors to new career opportunities.

The new division already has a packed calendar of course offerings and will be working with local contractors, public sector bodies, and employability programmes to extend access to those entering or re-entering the construction sector.

“What sets us apart is our flexibility and industry focus,” said Darrin Limond, training and competency lead at KR SkillsHub. “We know the reality of a busy construction site, so we design training that fits around operations, without compromising on quality or outcomes. Our fully accredited courses are delivered by professionals who have worked on the tools and really understand the industry.”

Darrin brings over 25 years of combined experience in construction, engineering, and vocational training to the KR SkillsHub team. His career began in steel fabrication and installation before progressing into specialist lifting operations and consultancy within the energy sector. He later founded and operated his own successful training business, further deepening his expertise.

In his new role at KR SkillsHub, Darrin will deliver NPORS-accredited training to both KR Group personnel and external delegates across Scotland, helping to raise standards and ensure site readiness throughout the industry.

In addition to its main training services, KR SkillsHub will also support regional development by partnering with local colleges and councils to address labour shortages and provide clear training-to-employment pipelines. Courses are open to individuals, SMEs, and large contractors alike, with custom packages available.
