Level crossing to temporarily close in Blackford to enable improvement works

Blackford’s level crossing will close for eight days as vital improvement work gets underway this month.

Engineers from Rail Systems Alliance Scotland, working on behalf of Network Rail, will install new rail, sleepers and ballast, while upgrading the crossing surface from 22:00hrs on Friday 9 February until 09:00hrs on Sunday 18 February.

The crossing will close during that time, with a further closure taking place from 00:30 on Sunday 17 March until 09:00 that day for planned follow-up works. These works are essential to keeping the crossing and the railway safe and reliable for years to come.

During the project vehicles, pedestrians and the emergency services will be diverted via the A9 both north and south bound.

David Johnson, project manager, Network Rail, said: “The work at Blackford will make the level crossing more reliable, while requiring less maintenance and reducing disruption to both passengers and users of the crossing.

“Our thanks go to the community for their patience and understanding while we complete this vital work.”
