Link Group looks to resurrect stalled Greenock site

Abandoned plans for new social homes at Strone Farm in Greenock could be revived under early plans unveiled by Link Group.

A bid to build 15 homes on the Glenbrae Road site encountered significant challenges since construction began in 2019. These include the liquidation of the appointed contractor in 2022 and rising material and construction costs, exacerbated by the aftermath of the pandemic.

Oak Tree Housing Association ceased the development in 2024.

But now, Link Group has confirmed it is interested in taking on the development and finally bringing the project to fruition.

“Link Group hopes to develop new homes at Strone Farm,” a spokesperson told SHN.

“This is subject to the transfer of the site from Oak Tree Housing Association to Link, following the demolition of the existing buildings by Oak Tree Housing Association, Link obtaining the necessary consents and funding for the development.

“We hope to start work on site in the next year, which will continue our commitment to delivering much needed affordable housing to the Inverclyde community.”
